Shanghai cuisine has invaded Malaysia for a couple of years judging by the number of restaurants selling La Mian & Xiao Long Bao such as Crystal Jade, Dragon-I, Ding Tai Fung and Shanghai 10 to name a few. La mian is basically handmade noodles and it is really a form of art watching the chef whipping up a bolw of la mian from the raised dough. While Xiao Long Bao is a form of Chinese Soup dumpling with near translucent skin, meat fillings and broth.
Crystal Jade La Mian and Xiao Long Bao restaurant is one of my favorite restaurant for La mian and xiao long bao. Strategically situated in the heart of Golden Triangle in Kuala Lumpur, Crystal Jade boast modern decor and an open kitchen.
This is the famous soup dumpling perfectly steamed on top of Chinese cabbage. The dumpling is carefully folded up to 24 times to ensure a perfect seal. To sample this delicacy, one need to be very careful while picking one up using a pair of chopstick. Next, carefully bite off the top of the dumpling to sip the wonderful broth. Then, savor the whole dumpling with some ginger and vinegar dipping. The experience is really heart warming and you'll definitely scream for second helpings. The steamed vegetable bun is also very famous.
Vegetable Steamed BunI also love their spicy and sour la mian and beef la mian. The texture of the la mian is really different from normal noodles. This is every elastic while 'crunchy' at the same time.
Spicy & Sour La MianSimple dishes like fried la mian and fried seafood rice are also expertly done. Do pay Crystal Jade a visit if you crave of a bowl of hot la mian and the delightful xiao long bao.
