Great Nyonya Cuisine @ Little Penang Café, The Curve Petaling Jaya

Aromatic 5-spice Chicken

Little Penang Café is a terrific place for great Nyonya Cuisine. With 3 branches in KLCC, Mid-Valley Megamall and The Cruve Mutiara Damansara, Little Penang Café is easily reachable.

I usually ordered the rice set that cost around RM14. My preferred choice is Aromatic 5-Spice Chicken set that consist of chicken, mushroom and hard boiled egg cooked with dark soy sauce, served with steamed fragrant rice. Side dishes like Ju Hu Char and fried Lobak are also provided as part of this set.

Ju Hu Char is a popular 'Nyonya' dish cooked from shredded turnip, carrots, mushroom, dried prawns and chicken meat. It is best eaten by wrapping in lettuce. The succulent Lobak looks very similar to Chinese spring roll and fill to bream with lean pork meat, prawn meat & turnip.

My next favourite rice set is 'Acar fish' set. Acar fish is actually a piece of fried fish steeped in pickle sauce, garnished with fried ginger and garlic.

Other signature dishes include Penang Curry Mee, Siamese Lemak Laksa, Penang Hokkiem Prawn Mee etc. This restaurant is usually packed during lunch time, so please be prepared to wait for table if you plan to drop by for lunch.

Assorted Seafood on Rice

Big Buddha Restaurant serves Asian, mainly Chinese cuisine, with a western ambiance and service. The range of food offered include classic Chinese dishes, rice toppings, noodles, congee, soup, dim sum and dessert.

Since I'm only dining alone, I ordered a bowl of assorted seafood on rice and wanton soup. The serving of rice is huge will prawns, fish cakes, squids & vegetables on a clear gravy. I must say the taste is only so-so and requires to be eaten with chili. The wanton soup fared better with big wanton with a combo of prawns and pork filling.

I wash this down with a cup of fresh mango juice. Overall I don't find the food amazing. Maybe I need to try other dishes first.

Rich Asian Cuisine @ Banana Leaf Curry House, Greenbelt 3 Makati Philippines

Rich & Warm Decor

When you are weeks and thousand of miles away from home, you'll develop the cravings for some rich and sinful national cuisines. I was glad I found a restaurant offering Malaysian, Thai and Indonesian cuisines.

My expectations was not that high as it is very hard even for a restaurant to master cuisine from 1 country and this restaurant offers dishes from 3 countries. The internal decor is warm and welcome. I quickly ordered a cup of Lemon Grass with Honey drink and it was very refreshing.

The menu is very diverse with Roti, soup, appetizers, meat, seafood and desserts. You can find signature Malaysia cuisine like satay, laksa, roti canai, murtabak, bak kut teh etc. I ordered Penang Fried Rice with Salted Fish and Chicken & Tilapia Fillet with Assam Sambal Sauce. Both dishes are acceptable and tasted very good. I'll surely come back and taste the other Malaysian dishes on offer.

This post is a milestone for my blog. Yes, it is the 50th post and hope I'll have 500 more to share.
